Jamie Oliver’s Comfort Food & Gjelina #giveaway

July 26, 2016 by Jenny Hartin 80 Comments

Another giveaway my friends!

jamieoliver

Jamie Oliver’s Comfort Food – The Ultimate Weekend Cookbook is a beautiful book chock full of you guessed, comfort food. I do believe Mr. Oliver has hit upon almost every ethnic cuisine in this title. Pho, pierogies, pasta dough, curries, satay and schnitzel – oh my! It really is a nice book and I have pulled my copy to try some recipes soon. So many recipes … so little time.

gjelina

Gjelina is a title I covered at TasteBook and you can read all about it here.

A friend sent me these two titles and I already have them so being the generous, wonderful person that I am, I want to give this set to one of you! The giveaway is open to U.S. addresses only. You may enter daily – but for the first entry – I would like you to check out my review on Gjelina and leave a comment telling me something from that post. A random winner will be chosen on August 10th. Good luck.

Random Number Generator picked #30 Allison L.

I read the review and like that you specified that there are a lot of ingredients but that the recipes are homey with a restaurant style upgrade. I have had Gjelina on my wish list for a while!

Having eaten there and at Gjusta in Venice Beach, I would love to be able to recreate some of the delicious food. Your comment that the cookbook features comforting recipes with a sophisticated twist is intriguing and perfectly desribes the food. Since a lot of restaurant receipes can be intimidating, I appreciate that you go on to say that the recipes are clearly laid out and fairly simple to recreate even if they do call for some unusual ingredients or techniques that may at first be unfamiliar.

Jenny, I love that there is a section in your review of what intimidated us. It’s inspiring to know that others can feel shy about jumping into new ideas like I would. I also like the California use of fresh produce such as artichokes.

I totally agree with what you said about condiments: “A lot of flavor can be added quickly and without a great deal of fuss by making sure your pantry has plenty of “herb-laced, vinegar-spiked, spicy, sour, and sweet salsas, pestos, aiolis, and herb emulsions.” I have *saved* many a dull meal with a pickle or little impromptu salsa. Would LOVE to win! I live in So Cal and have not yet been to Gjelina. Must remedy that.

Roasted Yams with honey, espeletteand lime yoghurt! I have Pimenton de Espelette in my pantry right now. Lately I have realized I like baking the yams over sweet potato as the skin seems thinner, peels right off. I would be eager to try this recipe

I’m excited to see that there is a great variety of interesting recipes for condiments and pickles, as I am working on a series of blog posts myself for different types of charcuterie boards and tapas-style meals that can be adapted to any vegetable, season, etc.

I look forward to hopefully having a chance to experiment with the recipes in this section of the book – long ingredients lists don’t scare me!

Thank you for the comprehensive review, Jenny!

At first I felt intimidated by your discussion of the lengthy ingredient lists on some of the recipes, and I wonder if it also has a higher difficulty level than I’m used to. Then I realized that I am a good enough cook to handle all of that, and that makes me want these books even more. Jaimie Oliver is one of my favorites because of his early, early shows and books, and then his later efforts to make good food healthy.

I just received my copy of Pure Food by Kurt Beecher Dommeier and I have to say I’m a bit disappointed with it. It has recipes within recipes, and beats you over the head with the mantra that you need to avoid all additives at all times. It gets a bit tiring to read, quite honestly.
