I have a few wonderful books to tell you about and a giveaway!
The first book is Ellen Jackson’s The Lemon Cookbook. I love all things lemon. There are some great looking recipes in this book and most I have marked to try. Toasted Bread and Chicken Salad with Roasted Lemon-Shallot Vinaigrette, Lemon Parmesan Chicken Soup with Herbed Dumplings, Lemon Creme Brulee with Lavendar and Honey are just few. Lemon in savory dishes is one of my favorite things.
Another Ellen Jackson title, Classic Cookies with Modern Twists, comes out in August. Ellen shares her very best tried and true recipes and for most of the recipes she adds a “twist” so two or more recipes in one! Strawberry Jam-Striped Cheesers, Tipsy Fig Slices and the Spread in a Pan chapter is worth the price of the book! Park Kitchen Brownies with Apricot Ganache, Toffee Tray Bakes and Honeymoon Bars are a few of the recipes in this chapter – I love a good bar recipe.
Pie School by Kate Lebo is absolutely wonderful with step by step photos to help you get your dough on and create the perfect pie. Gluten free recipes, cheese crust, lard crust – everything is covered. A great book to up your pie game. I love a book that gives you some unique and wonderful combinations – Plum Thyme Pie and Cardamom Cherry-Apple Pie are a few that look delicious.
If anyone is looking for a whole grain and natural sweetener cookbook – Honey & Oats by Jennifer Katzinger is it.
I want to make Hazelnut Date Scones, Zalettis (an Italian cookie with polenta, lemon zest, rosemary, currants or dried sour cherries), Prune Pecan Bread, Sweet Potato Skillet Corn Bread and Olive Oil Crackers. There are great recipes for Lavash Flatbread, Pies, Crostatas, Cookies, Cakes and more. I’d like to start experimenting more with whole grains. I saw this book at the library last year and it went on my list.
I have to mention another Sasquatch title that I love, A Boat, a Whale & a Walrus by Renee Erickson. It’s just a gorgeous cookbook with delicious recipes and wonderful writing – check it out.
Random Number Generator chose #88 Valerie Horowitz – congratulations!
