I love that they picked such an amazingly beautiful place where the odds of success were so slim, but they made it happen anyway.
I also like that there are both simple and exotic recipes, and the addition of the photographs would be a huge hit for me.

It sounds like it would take you directly to Tulum. I would love to see the pictures and the recipes (although the beets and avocado combine two of my favorite foods!)

There are several things that appeal to me about this book. The husband and wife collaboration. The environmentally conscious restaurant. And, how the recipes are inspired by their niche!!

It all sounds delicious to me. I’ve been to Tulum and If it takes me back I’ll be happy. Beautiful place!
Sharyl Wolter says
I love the contrast. New Yorkers move to the Yucatan and open an off grid restaurant. Just that fascinates me! The photos and recipes seal the deal.

Omg i want this in the worst way now! I absolutely love jicama slaw, and the thought avocado crema has me swooning 🙂

Love the sound of this book… Cooking based on the weather because of not having a roof.. Can’t wait to get my hands on this either way… I love dips so this sounds like it might be up my alley Queso Cotija

Their story is unique. The book looks so interesting .

I love that there are so many seafood recipes – I’m always trying to eat more and get bored with my regular recipes. And the spices from Mexico can’t be beat
Judy says
I love how little I know about this cuisine or locale, making it a learning experience.
Katrina says
Sounds like a beautiful book. I love Mexican food, probably the most of all kinds. I love beets. Though I would probably chicken out of the habenero crema and do jalapeno. That really does sound so good.

This book sounds so intriguing and the description of the restaurants environment takes you to Tulum. I love the thought of team work with the husband and wife collaboration. The roofless restaurant and cooking based on the weather and what’s available locally sounds divine. I’m adventurous in the kitchen and would welcome an opportunity to try new recipes.

I love this story!!

With all the grilled recipes, I can coax my husband into helping ! Beautiful part of the world.

I was not familiar with this book before reading this piece and now I have to have it! The location makes this a destination restaurant; I have always wanted to visit the Yucatan so to be able to experience it through this cookbook would be a great start. The flavors sound intriguing(well except for the grasshoppers) and I love that they offer substitutions for local, hard to find, ingredients. Their story would make a fascinating read about how they made the move to the Yucatan and operate a restaurant, and raise a family in a place so different than the Manhattan they left behind!

Having traveled to Tulum several times, your review is tugging me back. I am adding Harwood restaurant to my reasons to go! Thank you for the beet recipe. The change of weather and cooler weather crops gave me a craving for beets the other day. I ordered some rrom my CSA (because I got behind in planting this fall) and now I know what I will make when they arrive. And, I will eat them dreaming of the Yukatan sun.

I love that they have taken something so unique and local and made it accessible to home cooks across the world who might only be able to dream of actually dining at their restaurant.
Alison H. says
I love the story of how they opened their restaurant in Tulum and incorporate the farmers and the sea into their dishes. What a great story!
Susan Broughton says
I love the way they opened their restaurant and used local farms and farmers just like the farm to table known here in the U.S
Kim Henrichs says
Ahhh, i LOVE the Hartwood! Tulum is just the best. I really love the cover of the book alone – and the passion of the authors! I think it definitely shows.
Veronica E says
The spirit of the book intrigues me most! Eric and Mya sound like the perfect combo of dreamer and fighter.
Aaron Rishell says
Love the story and I can’t even imagine having to work in a true open kitchen.

I love the optimism of this piece!
Tina W says
Having lived in a very rural area, I love that they offer suggestions for harder to find ingredients.
And that crema is seriously calling my name.
What intimidated me: the idea of living off the grid. This girl needs her air conditioning and a flush toilet.
